Trends of Aboveground Net Primary Productivity of Patagonian Meadows, the Omitted Ecosystem in Desertification Studies

چکیده

The United Nations defines desertification as the loss of productivity in arid and semiarid environments. extended steppes Patagonia harbor small meadows whose compounded area is comparatively small, but their aboveground net primary production (ANPP) up to ten times higher than surroundings. These then represent a key ecosystem for cattle grazing systems, there are no descriptions trends ANPP and, consequently, carrying capacity, result, degradation syndromes. Our objectives were follows: (1) analyze mean spatial heterogeneity annual neighboring relate them with precipitation temperature, (2) evaluate impact on livestock capacity region, (3) these meadows, based novel description proposed characterize trend syndromes type ecosystems. We identified meadow areas across subcontinental scale Patagonia, covering range from 129 936 mm. estimated monthly basis 2000 2019 via regional calibrated remote sensing information. In last two decades, decreased 74% studied areas, while remaining relatively stable nearby steppes. This decrease was end analyzed gradient. Hence, global all by 8%. Finally, we four combination its heterogeneity, calculated standard deviation. predominant syndrome, 55% area, associated negative both heterogeneity. results could help prioritize where specific management decisions, given different syndromes, revert trends.

Estimating Aboveground Net Primary Productivity in Forest-Dominated Ecosystems

T he measurement of net primary productivity (NPP) in forest ecosystems presents a variety of challenges because of the large and complex dimensions of trees and the difficulties of quantifying several components of NPP. As summarized by Clark et al. (2001a), these methodological challenges can be overcome, and more reliable spatial and temporal comparisons can be provided, only if greater conc...

The allocation of ecosystem net primary productivity in tropical forests.

The allocation of the net primary productivity (NPP) of an ecosystem between canopy, woody tissue and fine roots is an important descriptor of the functioning of that ecosystem, and an important feature to correctly represent in terrestrial ecosystem models. Here, we collate and analyse a global dataset of NPP allocation in tropical forests, and compare this with the representation of NPP alloc...

Simulation of Aboveground net primary production by using the climatic factors in the Siahpoush and Ganjghah rangelands of Ardabil Province

Aboveground net primary production (ANPP) is one of the crucially characteristics of rangeland ecosystems and it is importance in the cycle of materials and energy in these ecosystems. The aim of present study was investigate the ANPP of life forms (grasses, forbs, and shrubs), and total ANPP; then modeling of life forms and total ANPP by using precipitation and temperature in Siahpoush and Gan...

the effect of taftan pozzolan on the compressive strength of concrete in the environmental conditions of oman sea (chabahar port)

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...
